Questions > NEW and a bit confused (USA)

The bank info requested... What does "Swift number, and IBAN" mean?

And how are other Americans deciding what to charge in euros (I assume there isn't a way to list what we charge in US dollars and have the site or paypal convert it, like ebay does)?

If you have any other advice for someone new here, and based in the US, please feel free to mention it here.

Thanks!

Swift & IBAN numbers are needed when you're accepting international payments - if you don't have these then you can only accept direct bank deposits from USA buyers - just make sure if you offer bank transfer you make it clear it will be only for USA buyers (I fell into that trap when I started here with someone wanting to do a bank transfer who wasn't from Australia where I am and I couldn't accept it).

For currency conversion, many of us non Euro users use xe.com to convert currency - I list prices in $AU in my item descriptions to make it easier for Australian buyers, you could consider the same in US$.

Good luck!!

So people can't use paypal here to pay for stuff? :-(

Welcome ! Yes, you can use Paypal, just click the box on your shop's info. and don't forget to put the corresponding email address.

Swift and IBAN numbers are international, it is my understanding (and experience) that ALL banks have these since these are the numbers which recognize your bank, country location, branch and account, on an international basis. If you choose to accept bank-transfers all you have to do is ask your bank for these numbers in case you can't find them on your bank extract. Bank transfers imply fees to the buyer (the one transferring) but not on the receiving end.
o:-)

There is a charge to receive bank transfers in the US from international buyers - many banks charge - so I would check with your specific bank before you accept. The charge was too high for me - so I just use paypal. There is also moneybookers or google checkout which seem to have lower charges than paypal - but paypal is still the most well known.

I use xe.com to convert currency. I stick with whatever it is the day I list and don't change with the currency changes - too much work.

Let me know if you have any other questions. good luck!

i wasn't sure what those were either. paypal has worked well for me on etsy, and it worked on my first dawanda sale too :) paypal eliminates doubts of nonpayment since they send notifications and makes things simpler for me; that in turn allows me to ship my order out quicker!

Super, thanks! I thought that the bank transfer was the only/required payment method. I'm glad to know I misunderstood.

I've got the impression that bank transfers in Europe are a really reasonably priced way to pay. But in North America, it's really expensive. So Canadians and Americans are stuck with paypal. rita.

They're not inexpensive in France, although they're a reasonable option. Here, the receiving party pays nothing (which as far as I know is also the case for Spain, Germany and England, in my experience), only the sender pays. I didn't know about the US. Good point in checking with your specific bank first..

I also discovered that after I got my payment, I needed to go to Paypal and click accept (I think that was the button, need to double check that) and then select the option of having the Euro payment converted to dollars. Everything seemed to process just fine at Paypal :)

Just to clarify, Swift (or Bic) and Iban numbers are codes that are allocated to your bank account number to make transfers WITHIN EUROPE faster, and cheaper. If you're based in the US, you won't have an Iban or Swift.

You can definitely use Paypal to receive payments from customers and pay for purchases on DaWanda. If you are a seller make sure to tick the box and fill in your Paypal email address. This means when you confirm an order, your payment info is automatically sent to your buyer.

kittyanydots where is that button to accept the paypal payment can you tell me? I just had my first sale (in Etsy) trough paypal and I know I did receive payment because i received an email but I dont know where the button to accept payment is..
Can anyone help me with that?
Thanks =) * * *

Birdlandcreations

If you have a currency account in paypal that is the currency you receive (ie Euros, here), you don't need to click "accept" - it just automatically goes into your account. So Bijunea, you probably don't need to do anything. If you look at your paypal account, you'll see the funds entered.
Kittyanydots - if you set up a Euro account in your paypal account, your Euro funds will go in immediately and then you can choose when to change the currency into dollars. I did it - just so funds would immediately transfer and the buyer not think there was a delay.

Hope this helps.
