My shop is a one-woman project and the seeds that I sell, I harvest in my own garden, which by the way is not a castle garden (it would be nice!), but a nature-oriented suburban garden on about 600 m2. Especially the EDIBLE WILD HERBS and the INSECT-FRIENDLY WILD PLANTS have done it to me.
No, I am not a trained gardener. Before the opening of my DaWanda store in 2013, I studied and worked at the University of Leipzig for almost two decades, with a focus on Indian medical history and plant science. Gardening has always been a good balance to my rather dusty work with medieval manuscripts. By the way, a breadless art without real perspective for me. Then I came up with a better idea: why not sell all the seeds that my herbs, flowers and vegetable plants produce, harvest and sell at a fair price every year, instead of throwing it on the compost heap, from where it is mercilessly distributed over the entire garden? And thus to contribute a little to the fact that more native plants move into other gardens again, that it blooms and smells wonderfully from spring to autumn, that bees, bumblebees, butterflies, beetles, birds and many other animals find food? So I took stock, took thousands of photos, looked at the countless notes I had made about my plants over the years, wrote small texts, harvested seeds, made targeted germ samples and set up my DaWanda shop. Which was accepted super fast and well, for which I am really very grateful! From August 2018 I have now moved to Etsy. A separate independent site will soon follow. A few words about my nursery: I only sell REPRODUCIBLE seeds! Unlike the deliberately manipulated F1 hybrid seeds, with which the market is flooded (in Germany already over 70% of all vegetables!), and which you have to buy new every year, plants develop from it that form seeds that can be sown again like in grandma's time. Due to certain EU regulations and because my seed is not certified, I am only allowed to offer it for ornamental purposes. Of course, I bought the mother plants or the basic seed from specialist retailers. For the sale of the seeds of protected plants from my garden, I have a permit from the Environment Agency. And even if I can not offer an organic seal - I assure that my plants are fertilized only with self-produced compost and nettle manure (the wild plants do not even need this) and the garden is not otherwise contaminated with pollutants. Of course, I regularly take germ samples. The information on the use of the plants I give comes mainly from the wonderful "Encyclopedia of Edible Wild Herbs" by Fleischhauer & Co. (AT Verlag, 2013) and the two-volume work "Medicinal Plants. Praxis heute" by Bäumler (Urban&Fischer 2012).

If I have more in stock, I will then set them in the desired quantity. But since I don't grow on a large scale, I actually only have a few bags of some seeds.

Mein Laden ist ein One-Woman-Projekt u. das Saatgut , das ich verkaufe, ernte ich in meinem eigenen Garten, der übrigens kein Schlossgarten ist (schön wär's!), sondern ein naturnah gestalteter Vorstadtgarten auf etwa 600 m2. Vor allem die ESSBAREN WILDKRÄUTER und die INSEKTENFREUNDLICHEN WILDPFLANZEN haben es mir angetan.
Nein, eine gelernte Gärtnerin bin ich nicht. Vor der Eröffnung meines DaWanda-Ladens 2013 habe ich knapp zwei Jahrzehnte an der Uni Leipzig studiert u. gearbeitet, Schwerpunkt indische Medizingeschichte u. Pflanzenkunde. Das Gärtnern war immer ein guter Ausgleich zu meiner eher staubigen Arbeit mit mittelalterlichen Manuskripten. Einer brotlosen Kunst übrigens ohne echte Perspektive für mich. Dann kam mir eine bessere Idee: warum nicht all das Saatgut, das meine Kräuter, Blumen u. Gemüsepflanzen jedes Jahr produzieren, ernten u. zu einem fairen Preis verkaufen, anstatt es auf den Komposthaufen zu schmeißen, von wo aus es sich immer wieder gnadenlos über den gesamten Garten verteilt? Und damit ein wenig dazu beizutragen, dass auch in andere Gärten wieder mehr einheimische Pflanzen einziehen, es von Frühjahr bis Herbst herrlich blüht und duftet, Bienen, Hummeln, Schmetterlinge, Käfer, Vögel und viele andere Tiere Nahrung finden? Also machte ich eine Bestandsaufnahme, schoß tausende Fotos, sichtete die zahllosen Notizen, die ich mir über die Jahre zu meinen Pflanzen gemacht hatte, schrieb kleine Textchen, erntete Saatgut, machte gezielt Keimproben und richtete mir meinen DaWanda-Laden ein. Der super schnell u. gut angenommen wurde, wofür ich wirklich sehr dankbar bin! Ab August 2018 bin ich nun mit zu Etsy umgezogen. Seit März 2024 findest du mein Gesamtsortiment hier:

Noch ein paar Worte zu meinem Sämerein: Ich verkaufe ausschließlich NACHBAUFÄHIGES Saatgut! Anders als aus dem bewußt manipulierten F1-Hybrid-Saatgut, mit dem der Markt überschwemmt ist (in Deutschland bereits über 70 % aller Gemüsesorten!), u. das man jedes Jahr neu kaufen muss, entwickeln sich daraus Pflanzen, die Samen ausbilden, die wie zu Omas Zeiten wieder ausgesät werden können. Wegen gewisser EU-Verordnungen u. weil mein Saatgut nicht zertifiziert ist, darf ich es nur zu Zierzwecken anbieten. Die Mutterpflanzen bzw. das Basissaatgut habe ich selbstverständlich im Fachhandel erworben. Für den Verkauf des Saatguts geschützter Pflanzen aus meinem Garten habe ich eine Genehmigung vom Umweltamt. Und auch wenn ich kein Bio-Siegel bieten kann - ich versichere, dass meine Pflanzen nur mit selbst produziertem Kompost und Brennnesseljauche gedüngt werden (die Wildpflanzen brauchen nicht einmal diesen) u. der Garten auch sonst nicht mit Schadstoffen kontaminiert ist. Selbstverständlich mache ich regelmäßig Keimproben. Die Informationen zur Verwendung der Pflanzen, die ich gebe, stammen v.a. aus der herrlichen "Enzyklopädie Essbare Wildkräuter" von Fleischhauer & Co. (AT Verlag, 2013) und dem zweibändigen Werk "Heilpflanzen. Praxis heute" von Bäumler (Urban&Fischer 2012).
